This week, we learned why we wear a poppy and the significance of November 11th as Remembrance Day. We also learned about Indigenous Veteran's Day which is on November 8th. Some of our students have been reading non-fiction texts on Remembrance Day. They were also excellent classroom readers for our group lessons.
A big part of our program is to increase our reading skills. We practice daily through phonemic awareness, phonics, reading decodable texts, building comprehension and learning new vocabulary.
In math, we are working on various number sense skills including counting, patterns, ordering, reading numbers, adding and subtracting. Students have individual goals based on their skill level. We will continue to work on these functional math skills.
